Course Description

This class is designed to expose students to new research and to engage in critical discussion about various facets of the criminal legal system. It is targeted both towards students interested in considering a scholarly path as well as those interested in criminal legal practice or reform. Each week we will read a new paper, many of which will not even be published yet. We will engage in a structured group discussion in order to better understand the paper’s arguments and to evaluate its merits. Topic may include eugenics, violence, misdemeanors, the bail system, police accountability, abolition, race, and many others.
