Prior to joining the Office of Career Development, Daniel Justus was an associate in the Washington, D.C., office of Clifford Chance US. He practiced in the global financial markets group, where his practice was largely comprised of project finance (both domestic and international) and cross-border capital markets work. Justus was a member of the Hiring Committee, ARCUS (Clifford Chance’s LGBTQIA+ affinity group) and frequently engaged with other affinity groups during his time at Clifford Chance.

Justus received his B.A. in political philosophy, policy and law and Chinese language and literature; an M.A. in philosophy; and a J.D. from the University of Virginia. During his studies, he was actively involved in the Monroe Society, the Institute of World Languages, and Madison House’s Latinx and Migrant Aid program, where he served as program director and head program director. In law school, he was a Peer Advisor, member of the Lambda Law Alliance, USAI-Szymanski Rule of Law Fellow, and an editorial board member and assistant production editor for the Virginia Tax Review. Justus also served as the in-residence director of the Casa Bolívar, UVA’s Spanish-language dormitory, for three years. He is fluent in Spanish and proficient in Mandarin Chinese.
