Justice Breyer to Speak at Public Interest Law Conference Conference on Public Service and the Law Schedule

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer will give the keynote address at the Fifth Annual Conference on Public Service and the Law at the University of Virginia School of Law. The two-day, student — organized symposium draws attorneys and government officials together to survey the status of legal issues relating to social justice. The conference will begin Friday evening Feb. 27 with workshops designed to help law students find public service employment. Breyer will deliver the event's keynote address Saturday, Feb. 28, at 4:30 p.m. in the Law School's Caplin Auditorium.

Public Service and the LawThe Conference features panel discussions on wide-ranging topics including reformation of federal judicial appointments and the success of President Bush's No Child Left Behind education program. Other panels will deal with issues such as abortion litigation, the regulation of animals used in research, and how to balance privacy interests and security concerns after September 11. All panel discussions will take place on Saturday, Feb. 28. Last year's conference drew more than 500 participants from law schools across the eastern United States.
