Course Description

Is being a legally ethical attorney the same thing as being a morally ethical one? In Professional Responsibility for the Public Interest Lawyer, we will come back to tensions that can arise between a legally ethical responsibility and a morally ethical obligation. We will also study the ways different legal rules and standards are applied to different types of public interest attorneys: prosecutors, attorneys representing indigent clients, counselors to government agencies, and lawyers for nonprofit advocacy organizations. The goal for the course is for students to gain the confidence to take the lead in identifying problems related to legal ethics and devising effective solutions.
